From the Associated Press: Although most of the newspaper's staff are to work in the field, some personnel, as well as operations of the North Jersey Media Group, will be based at a building in West Paterson, he said. Others will be based in some of the 10 community newspaper offices the company has in the region. The West Paterson office already has some personnel from the parent company, and is the base of a sister newspaper, the Herald News. The Record had said in February it would be leaving Hackensack in the next two to three years. The newspaper's staff learned of the latest details in a memo sent Thursday by Borg. The memo was first reported Monday by Editor & Publisher on its Web site. In the memo, Borg cited a need to "reinvent ourselves" because of declining advertising revenue that won't return even when the economy rebounds. "Vacating Hackensack will save the company $2.4 million a year. This number is for electricity, cleaning crews, and other items that will go away upon vacancy. When we actually sell the land, additional money will be saved like, but not limited to, property taxes," he said in the memo, a copy of which was obtained by the AP. The four-story building, on nearly 20 acres, is now underused, the company has said. Production of The Record moved in 2006 to a plant in Rockaway Township.
