Rafael RiquelmeAt tomorrow night's public meeting of the Mayor & Council meeting, a new Council member will be appointed to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Eric Abrahamson: Rafael Riquelme will be sworn in, and United States Senator Robert Menendez will be in attendance. According to information on the Dumont Democratic Organization's web site, Rafael Riquelme is the Vice President of the Democratic Club. Born in St. Thomas and of Cuban-American descent, he graduated from Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI in 1985 with a B.S. in Hotel Management. Since graduating, Rafael has worked in numerous hotels in New York, including The Barbizon, The Algonquin, and The New York Helmsley where he was the Director of Food and Beverage.
Mr. Riquelme moved to Dumont in 1994, and has been an assistant coach for baseball, basketball, softball, and soccer teams. Involved in the Zoning Board since 2006, he is a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church. Mr. Riquelme and his wife, Bernadette, have been married for 17 years and have two children – Daniel, who attends Dumont High School, and Lauren, who attends Grant School.
