From NorthJersey.com: Dumont GOP mounts aggressive campaign Friday, August 22, 2008 BY SERDAR TUMGOREN STAFF WRITER DUMONT — Republicans hoping to rebuild their party and break Democrats’ monopoly on power are mounting their first aggressive political campaign in three years. "We are definitely trying to rebuild the party from the ground up, and this is hopefully a big step in that direction." For the full story at the Record's web site at NorthJersey.com, click here.

U.S. ATTORNEY SUBPOENAS DUMONT |
Mayor McHale (From today's (7/23) edition of the Record:) Two more Bergen County municipalities confirmed today they received subpoenas this week from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. A dozen North Jersey towns confirmed getting subpoenas yestetday, and confirmations from Closter and Dumont yesterday brought the total to 14. The subpoenas request records related to Bergen County Democratic Organization Chairman Joseph Ferriero, attorney Dennis Oury, utilities chief Leonard Kaiser and David Spatz, the president of Governmental Grants Consulting, a firm in which all four men shared an interest. The FBI appears to be investigating how the firm’s principals used their political positions to obtain business for it.

Zoning Board hearing on old Sunoco station |
This coming Monday, June 9, at 7:30PM, the Zoning Board will be hearing the application of Village Square Madison Avenue, LLC for the development of the old Sunoco station property at the corner of East Madison Avenue and Brook Street. (You may have noticed that about two weeks ago, a hand car wash opened up at that location.) According to the Public Notice, the applicant is apparently seeking approval for a 4-story mixed-use building, consisting of 7,641 square feet of retail space and 24 residential units. In connection with the application, the developer is seeking a height variance, with 42 feet proposed (rather than the required 28 feet) and possibly other variances. One of the issues facing our town is the traffic backups on East Madison Avenue heading west toward Washington Avenue. Obviously, the proposed development at East Madison & Brook Street will have an impact upon both traffic and parking in our downtown area. All residents who are available should attend this meeting, to both be aware of what changes might be coming and how our downtown area may be affected, and to have the ability to express your interests and concerns.
